Rainbow Project

Hugs can do great amounts of good—especially for children." - Thomas Edison

The Rainbow Project is an early intervention program for children who are having mild adjustment problems at school. Students are referred for a variety of reasons, such as being new to the school, having difficulty making friends, extreme shyness, family going through a divorce, death of a family member, or needing help in developing better social skills.

Greenbrook has had a Rainbow Project on site since 1989. Over 500 students have directly benefited from our intervention program and hundreds of others have benefited indirectly.

With the help of a grant from the State Department of Mental Health, Early Mental Health Initiative, we have expanded our Rainbow services to the students at Greenbrook. Rainbow provides individual time with a trained paraprofessional to help the child develop confidence and a more positive self-image, as well as a supportive relationship with another adult at school. Rainbow also offers small group sessions to teach social skills of empathy, problem-solving, and emotion management.

Grants from the Early Mental Health Initiative are always "matching funds" grants and our portion is to pay for one of the aide's salary. Community support through purchases at the cookie dough sale or other donations are very important for our project to continue.

Please look for our kick-off on JANUARY 24, 2007 with delivery of that yummy cookie dough on FEBRUARY 28, 2007. We will need help at that time to distribute the orders so please mark a "Yes" on your volunteer list for Rainbow. You will help us make a difference.

If you have any questions about the Rainbow Project, contact our Rainbow Coordinator, Sue Davis, at 479-1627.
